The U.S. Department of Commerce has announced trade restrictions against six Chinese companies involved in the People’s Republic of China’s spy balloon program. They have been added to the list of entities suspected of acting to the detriment of US interests.

Aerospace and electronics companies from Beijing, Nanjing, Guangzhou and Shanxi have been blacklisted, according to an announcement published in the Federal Register. They have been added to the so-called “Entity List” containing entities suspected of acting to the detriment of the interests of the United States.

“These entities have been added to the list for their support for the modernization efforts of the Chinese military, specifically the People’s Liberation Army’s aviation programs, including aircraft and balloons and related materials and components,” the release said. As added, balloons serve China for intelligence and reconnaissance purposes.
