SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — The U.S. Coast Guard mentioned an individual from the Dominican Republic died after it fired at a fleeing boat within the Caribbean Sea that was smuggling an estimated $11 million price of cocaine.

The company mentioned Thursday that Coast Guard officers aboard a U.S. Navy ship fired “warning photographs and disabling fireplace” in the course of the Jan. 1 incident and located an injured crew member once they boarded.

The assertion mentioned that the individual acquired first help and was medically evacuated to the Dominican Republic, the place they died. The individual was not recognized.

Deadly shootings involving the Coast Guard are uncommon.

“The Coast Guard takes any lack of life critically and is working to research the incident,” spokesman Lt. Cmdr. John W. Beal mentioned.
