The Democratic National Convention began Monday. Tim Walz, the Democratic vice presidential candidate, took the stage. He was greeted by a crowd of chanting supporters. “We're all here today for one beautiful, simple reason: We love this country,” Walz said.
The vice presidential candidate said he wants to give Americans the freedom to “create better lives for themselves and the people they love” and “make their own health care decisions.” He said people shouldn’t have to worry about their children being “shot down in the hallways of schools.”

Earlier, speakers included former President Bill Clinton and popular American television presenter and producer Oprah Winfrey, whose appearance was a surprise.
“I call on all independents and undecideds,” Winfrey said, declaring that she herself is an independent. “Decency and respect will be on the ballot in 2024,” she said.
Democrats recalled the storming of the Capitol on January 6, 2021. A video was shown in which Donald Trump he urged his followers to be strong and fight.
Democrat Nancy Pelosiwho was the Speaker of the House of Representatives on January 6, 2021, said: “Let's not forget who attacked democracy on January 6th. But let's also not forget who saved democracy that day: we did,” Pelosi said.
