The process of selecting a candidate for the Democratic vice president of the United States is coming to an end. Kamala Harris will hold direct talks with selected politicians in the coming days, the Politico website reported on Friday.
The candidate for the office of the President of the United States has not yet met in person with any of the candidates mentioned by the media or politicians of the Democratic Party, but she intends to do so in the coming days, which will be the last step in the process of selecting a potential vice president. The verification team has already conducted meetings on her behalf.
Campaign schedule accelerated due to presidential withdrawal Joe Bidenhas led to “a mad scramble for (vice presidential) candidates to participate in televised debates and campaign rallies — and for allies to lobby for them — as everyone tries to read the cues from Harris, who has privately told aides that her top priority is finding 'a partner to run (the country),'” Politico reported.
“Some of Harris' advisers and allies involved in the vice presidential candidate decision-making process include chief of staff Sheila Nix, campaign chair Jen O'Malley Dillon, former Republican Rep. Cedric Richmond and Tony West,” the outlet reported.
Democratic Vice Presidential Candidates
Kamala Harris’ vetting team has already met with Democratic governors on the shortlist, including Pennsylvania, Minnesota and Kentucky governors Josh Shapiro, Tim Walz and Andy Beshear, as well as Sen. Mark Kelly. The team has also asked the candidates to present their campaign materials.
Experts interviewed by Politico said Harris is not looking for someone to mobilize Democratic voters just for the campaign. Former Biden administration official Adam Hoge said Harris will pick someone who could potentially govern at her side for years.
“Nobody understands that better than the vice president and her team,” Hoge said. “This isn't just a choice of a running mate, this is a choice of the vice president,” he added.
