Cautious optimism – this is the mood prevailing in the election headquarters of Republicans and Democrats, according to the reports of CNN reporters Paula Newton and Karin Caifa, who connected with the TVN24 studio after 11 p.m. to describe the situation in the US in the last hours of voting to viewers in Poland.
Present on the electoral staff Donald Trump in West Palm Beach, Florida, CNN reporter Paula Newton said she sensed “cautious optimism” among Republicans on election night.
– The former president looked tired this morning. When he went to vote with his wife Melania, he expressed faith in his own strength, but he said he would accept the vote result if the vote was fair, Newton said in an interview with TVN24.
The CNN reporter mentioned that Trump's campaign is assuming that he will gain the support of men who have never voted before. “Trump thinks there are reasons for optimism,” she added.
Kamala Harris fought for votes until the last minute
In turn, Karin Caifa was present at Kamala Harris's election night in Washington. She pointed out that the campaign on the Democratic side was extremely dynamic, especially due to the sudden takeover of the nomination by the current vice president.
The CNN reporter said that Kamala Harris's staff is also optimistic. She emphasized that the vice president USA “until the last moments, giving radio interviews, encouraging people to vote for her.”
– Over the past week, Kamala Harris's team has said that she feels more optimistic, but the Democratic candidate said not to get too carried away with her assessments – added the CNN reporter.
US presidential elections
Voting in the US began on Tuesday at 6 a.m. (12 p.m. Polish time) in eastern states. Partial results from these states will begin being released just after midnight ET, with the last polls – in Alaska and Hawaii – closing at 7 AM ET on Wednesday.
As Harris's staff told reporters on Monday, it is possible that if the differences between the candidates are not very small, on Tuesday evening (Wednesday morning in Poland) we will know the results of the elections in Georgia, North Carolina and Michigan, and after midnight Eastern American time also in Wisconsin. If either candidate wins three of these states, they will be almost guaranteed to win.
In the case of such close competition in key states as in 2020, it may take until Thursday and later to select a winner. In 2020, you had to wait as many as four days for the decision, including: due to the record number of votes cast by mail.
