Taylor Dudley, a veteran of the US Navy, was released from custody in Russia and arrived in Poland on Thursday. The man was detained in April 2022 in the Kaliningrad region, and the State Department, as well as the US embassies in Warsaw and Moscow, were involved in negotiations on his case, CNN reported.

Taylor Dudley, 35, a former US military man, attended a music festival in Poland nine months ago, then crossed the border into the Kaliningrad region and was detained there. It is not clear why the man ended up in the territory Russia. US authorities did not consider Dudley’s arrest “unlawful” and based on arbitrary and discriminatory motives, CNN reported.

On Thursday, the American was transferred by the Russian side to Poland at the Bagrationovsk-Bezledy border crossing.

The release was not related to any exchange

“It’s great that after six months of intense negotiations, we’ve managed to secure Dudley’s release,” Bill Richardson, former Permanent Representative to CNN, told CNN. USA at the United Nations and Governor of New State Mexicowho led Washington’s talks with Moscow regarding the veteran’s return to his homeland.

Dudley’s release was not related to any exchange, i.e. the transfer to Russia of a citizen of this country who is serving a prison sentence in the USA. The detention of a former military man in the Kaliningrad region was not previously publicized at the request of the veteran’s family, CNN noted.

Earlier, in early December last year, she was held in Russia American basketball player Brittney Griner, who was sentenced there to nine years in prison, was exchanged for the Russian arms dealer Viktor But. The transfer of the prisoners took place in the United Arab Emirates.
