US, Nebraska. A cowboy and his horse killed by lightning

A cowboy and a horse were killed by lightning in the US state of Nebraska, the local prosecutor’s office said. According to the U.S. Bureau of Investigation of Deaths from Lightning Strikes, the state has not recorded a lightning death in 10 years.

Terrel Vineyard, 27, a rodeo competitor, was on his horse on June 21 when he was struck by lightning north of Oshkosh, western Nebraska, Garden County prosecutors said.

As the American media reported this week, the services arrived on the scene shortly after 2 p.m., after receiving a report of the incident. They found the man’s body. After an autopsy, it was confirmed that the 27-year-old lightning struck. The horse also died.

Six deaths caused by lightning in the US this year

This is one of six lightning-related deaths in the United States this year, and one in Nebraska, according to the National Lightning Safety Cuncil, a national agency that documents lightning strikes.

Of the 223 lightning-related deaths in the U.S. between 2013 and 2022, none have been recorded in the state, according to the office.
