Miami police have arrested a 32-year-old man who tried to abduct a 6-year-old girl. This one was supposed to thwart the assault by biting the accused on the arm. “She fought very bravely for her safety,” a police officer told CBS News Miami.

According to police, the attempted abduction of six-year-old A’hylric took place in the courtyard of an apartment complex in north Miami on Thursday. The girl allegedly noticed the white SUV from which the unknown man came out when she was left alone outside after playing with other children, CBS News Miami reported on Monday. The kidnapper was supposed to catch the girl and then carry her away. However, she started to defend herself.

He grabbed me, picked me up and started running with me, (then) I bit him,” A’hylric later reported in an interview with the station. The attacker then allegedly punched the six-year-old, threw her to the ground and ran to her car. A’hylric ran to her apartment and told her mother’s partner about the incident.

The child’s account was confirmed by recordings from surveillance cameras. By reading the SUV’s license plates, police tracked down the vehicle and arrested its owner two days after the incident. He was identified as 32-year-old Leonardo Venegasa. The man was charged with kidnapping and child abuse.

The girl’s mother, Teshia McGill, told CBS News Miami that her daughter is “really brave.” “She beat him,” she said. Police officer Kiara Delva praised A’hlyric for having a “great memory”. “She was able to provide an accurate description of the suspect,” she said. “She fought very bravely for her safety,” she added.
