A human head washed up on a beach in Florida near the village of Key Biscayne. It had been found a week earlier, and now it was possible to determine who it belonged to. As American media reported over the weekend, citing a Friday statement from Miami police, these were the remains of 19-year-old Victor Enrique Castaneda Jr.
The head washed ashore
The young man disappeared on November 9 while bathing. According to a witness cited by police, Castaneda and his younger sister, 17-year-old Hailey, were swimming in the sea off South Pointe Beach when they found themselves in distress and began screaming for help. The witness first helped the girl out of the water, but when he returned for the 19-year-old, he could no longer find him. The witness did not say what kind of danger this might have been.
The unidentified head, initially unrelated to Castaneda's disappearance, was found three days later by one of the beach workers after it had been washed ashore by the waves. The boy's causes of death are unknown. An investigation has been initiated into the case, but according to the police, at the moment there is no indication of the involvement of third parties. The search for the rest of the body of the deceased 19-year-old is also ongoing.
“Victor was a loving, sweet” brother
Last Saturday, people gathered on the beach to honor Castaneda's memory. According to the Miami Herald, the boy's sister spoke out and emphasized that “Victor was a loving, sweet” brother. – Ever since I was little, Victor always said he would protect me, and he died protecting me. He is everything to me, he is my other half. I will never stop missing you, she said.
