There was a shooting on Tuesday at the U.S. Postal Service shipping center in Memphis, Tennessee. As a result of this incident, three people died, including the attacker, the FBI spokeswoman said during a conference attended by a representative of the US Postal Inspection.
Two US Postal Service employees lost their lives in the shooting at the East Lamar Carrier Annex complex on Orange Mound in the suburbs of Memphis. They died from shots fired by their colleague, who also died from injuries sustained in a suicide shot, FBI spokeswoman Lisa-Anne Culp said.
The USPS Logistics and Forwarding Center in Memphis does not serve retail customers, said Susan Link, an inspector at the US Postal Inspection Service. In her opinion, it was thanks to this circumstance that the number of potential victims and injured was not higher.
Among the dead are James Wilson, the head of the department where the perpetrator of the shooting was employed, the family of the killed manager reported.
The FBI is investigating the causes of the attack
The perpetrator’s motives are being investigated by the FBI, writes Reuters. The investigation is being conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation because the offense occurred on a federal site. Reuters recalls in this context that in the event of an active security threat, the FBI can respond with weapons.
In addition to the FBI, the US Postal Inspectorate, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Memphis Police are also involved in the investigation.
Tennessee is one of the last U.S. states to allow people over the age of 21 to possess firearms in April 2021 without prior authorization and training.
