Florida is facing the effects of a tropical storm. In Miami, heavy rain blocked the streets, and emergency services had to help several people stranded in flooded cars.
Though storm tropical Alex did not gain enough strength to turn into a hurricane, seriously hampered the lives of the people of Florida. On Friday night, heavy rain flooded the streets of Miami and Fort Lauderdale, preventing traffic in some neighborhoods.
Part of the state under water
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the tropical storm Alex brought gusts of winds of 64 kilometers per hour and heavy rains. Rainfall of more than 200 liters per square meter has been recorded in the coastal area of Miami, according to local sources.
The heavy rains also brought flooding. Some streets ended up under water, and several residents were trapped inside their cars. The Miami Fire Department came to the rescue to help drivers safely get out of the vehicles.
Rainy night, sunny day
It took several hours to remove the effects of the downpour. From many places, abandoned, flooded cars had to be towed away – their owners were leaving the cars in panic, crossing the waist-high water. There is no information about the injured and fatalities.
Sunday in Florida is going to be much nicer. After heavy rainstorms weather forecasts indicate that in the south of the state, temperatures will reach 30 degrees.
