Allison Mack was released from prison more than a year before the end of her sentence. The actress, known for appearing on the TV series Smallville, was convicted of recruiting women into a cult whose members were branded with its leader’s initials and ordered to have sex with him.

Allison Mack was released early from a prison in Dublin, California, on Monday, July 3, according to documents made available on the website of the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Authorities said the now 40-year-old actress’s jail term was cut short because she was cooperating with law enforcement investigating NXIVM New York cult leader Keith Raniere.

According to investigators, NXIVM – officially a self-development organization – was in fact a sect whose members were forced to work and perform sexual favors for its leader. The group was a pyramid scheme: members paid thousands of dollars for courses that would lead them up the ranks. Raniere was the male leader of the group, but he had several female associates under him, including Allison Mack.

In June 2021, a Brooklyn court sentenced Allison Mack to three years in prison for participating in this cult where women were branded with its leader’s initials and ordered to have sex with him. During the trial, the actress apologized to the victims and her family. She admitted that her actions were “disgusting, repugnant and illegal”. At the same time, she assured that she completely renounced Raniere, who in 2020 was sentenced to 120 years in prison for sex trafficking and other crimes.

Allison Mack during a 2019 trial admitted to recruiting women into the sect. She also confirmed then that she threatened the members of the group with the publication of compromising materials if they wanted to reveal the truth about NXIVM’s activities.
