Actor Alec Baldwin’s lawyers say prosecutors have dropped criminal charges against him over the accidental fatal shooting of cameraman Halyna Hutchins on the set of Rust.
“We are pleased with the decision to drop the case against Alec Baldwin and encourage a proper investigation into the facts and circumstances of this tragic accident,” Baldwin’s lawyers said in a statement quoted by the media.

Baldwin was charged with involuntary manslaughter in January this year in connection with an October 2021 accident where he fatally shot Ukrainian cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injured director Joel Souza on the set of the western “Rust” in New York while practicing with a handgun. Mexico. Weapons specialist Hanna Gutierrez-Reed was also charged. Neither Baldwin nor Gutierrez-Reed pleaded guilty in court. Both faced up to 18 months in prison.

According to CNN, the charges were dropped a month after special prosecutor Andrea Reeb dropped the investigation.
