The head of American diplomacy, Antony Blinken, during a meeting with his counterparts from Israel and the United Arab Emirates, emphasized that diplomacy is the best way to deal with the threat related to Iran’s nuclear program. “Time is running out and we are considering all options,” he admitted.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Wednesday after meeting with Israeli foreign ministers Jair Lapid and the United Arab Emirates Abdullah ibn Zajed al-Nahayan that “the diplomatic path remains the most effective” to ensure that Iran does not obtain nuclear weapons. “But while we have made it clear that we are ready to return to the JCPOA, we do not see the same from Iran,” said Blinken. As he added, time is running out because “it takes two to diplomacy”.
“We are approaching the point where a mutual return to compliance with the JCPOA rules will not allow the benefits of the deal to be recovered, as Iran has been developing its nuclear program all the time,” said the US Secretary of State. Therefore, he said, the United States is considering all options, including in discussions with Israel and the United Arab Emirates.
Lapid: Iran on the “threshold” of obtaining nuclear weapons
Blinken met with the heads of diplomacy of both countries during talks, including on the so-called Abrahamic Agreements. – I think that probably everyone, both here and in Tehran, understands what “other options” mean, said the head of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the future prime minister Jair Lapid. In this way, he answered the question of whether it was a forceful solution.
Lapid added that Iran is on the “threshold” of obtaining nuclear weapons and with each day of delay in negotiations over the nuclear program is getting closer to owning these weapons. However, he made the reservation that Israel would not allow this to happen. He stressed that Iran needs to see that the world is taking this problem seriously.
– We are both sons of Holocaust survivors. We know there are times when states must use force to save the world from evil. Israel reserves the right to act at any time. It is not only our right, but also our duty – said Lapid. – Iran has publicly stated that it wants to wipe us off the map. We will not let him do that, ‘he added. Jair Lapid stated that the Iran problem is the central topic of talks by the Israeli delegation to the US. On Tuesday, the head of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs met with Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi and members of Congress from both parties.
Talks on the normalization of Israel’s relations with the Arab states
On Wednesday, Lapid first spoke to Blinken with the UAE chief of diplomacy and the son of Abu Dhabi’s ruler Abdullah ibn Zajed al-Nahayan, and then held separate talks with the US secretary of state. The topics were the normalization of Israel’s relations with the Arab states, i.e. The Abrahamic Agreements and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. “The more successful Israel’s relationship with the UAE, the more they can encourage Israelis and Palestinians and convince them that this path works, but that you need to invest in it and take risks,” said the representative of the Emirates.
