Key facts:

  • Alaxandr Lukashenko accused Ziankowicz of plans to kill him and kidnap his children.
  • The media overseas informs in what circumstances the man released and where he stays.
  • This is the third during the current presidency of Donald Trump, a US citizen released by the Lukashenko regime.

“Thanks to the leadership of Potus (President of the United States), Belarus freed another unjustly detained US citizen. No president did so much, as quickly as to ensure the safety of Americans abroad,” Rubio announced on Wednesday.

As previously informed by representatives of the US administration, JuraÅ› Ziankowicz, a lawyer with US citizenship, is a fired prisoner. The man was kidnapped in 2021 in Moscow and taken to Belaruswhere he was accused of, among others, to complicity in an attempt to overthrow the Alaxander Lukashenko regime.

Lukashenko himself claimed that JuraÅ› Ziankowicz was part of the plan of American services including killing him and kidnapping his children. The American authorities denied the Belarusian claims, and in February officially considered the prisoner wrongly detained.

The Belarusian regime confirms the release

The release of Ziankowicz was also confirmed by the Belarusian regime.

– At the request of the US President's administration, US citizen JuraÅ› Ziankowicz was released – said the spokeswoman of the Belarusian dictator Natalia Ejsmont.

According to the Belarusian KGB, the goal of the conspirators was to be “armed rebellion” and “physical elimination of the president and his family members”.

Political scientist Alaxandr Fiadut and the leader of the Belarusian national front Ryhor Kastusiou were also to participate in this operation. Ziankowicza was sentenced to 11 years, and “co -teams” to 10 years in prison. After two years, Ziankowicz's judgment was added for two more years for “disobedience” towards the prison administration.

The third US citizen released by the Lukashenko regime
