Snow fell in the mountains of Northern California. Precipitation occurred, inter alia, in the vicinity of Lake Tahoe, recently ravaged by fire.
Snow fell on Interstate 80 in the Kingvale area of Nevada on Friday. The mountainous landscape has also turned white in the Christmas Valley area near Lake Tahoe. Among other things, snow fell in places devastated recently by the Caldor fire that broke out on August 14.
The National Weather Service (NWS) reported that two to seven centimeters of snow fell in the higher parts of the mountains, writes the Californian daily The Sacramento Bee.
Weekend weather forecasts for this part of the state of warming. Snowfall, along with cooler temperatures, could come back early next week.
The Caldor fire is under 93 percent control, and all warnings and evacuation orders have been lifted, according to the newspaper. However, more than 1,110 firefighters remain on standby. The fire has so far covered nearly 90,000 hectares.
