Destiny Williams and her daughter Misty returned from church and entered the house unaware of anything. It was only a neighbor who noticed and alerted the family that smoke was coming from their car. One family member managed to put out the flames with a garden hose until firefighters arrived. After the firefighters arrived, it turned out that the fire may have been caused by a children's book – ABC reports.
Child seat fire. The cause was supposedly a battery in the booklet
It was not an ordinary book, but an interactive item for children. Inside was a round battery. And it was this that was the direct cause of the fire, as investigators believe. The ignition occurred when the battery got too hot. This happened despite the fact that the book was hidden under the seats and not exposed to direct sunlight.
The George Hildebran Fire & Rescue Department shared photos of the incident on Facebook, showing a child seat burned and half melted.
The publisher of the book spoke out. We know what batteries he used
The book is “JJ's Potty Time” and features characters from the popular children's show on YouTube CoComelon. The book had buttons that made sounds when pressed, which required batteries.
ABC has warned that some batteries contain flammable lithium. But JJ's Potty Time publisher, Cootage Door Press, says the batteries in its books do not contain the metal. “Our millions of e-books we've sold use alkaline batteries, not lithium-ion. We're relieved that no one was injured in this incident. We're working closely with local authorities and experts to determine the cause of the accident.”
