Trump convicted of sexual abuse and defamation

A jury in New York on Tuesday found Donald Trump guilty of sexually abusing and defaming the now 79-year-old American writer E. Jean Carroll in a civil trial. The jury dismissed the woman’s allegation that Trump raped her in the 1990s. However, she believed that he had sexually abused her.

Carroll’s lawsuit was for allegations of rape and bodily harm. She also accused Trump of defamation for calling her allegations “a fraud and a scam.” Carroll did not comment on the verdict, but her lawyer, Roberta Kaplan, said: “We are very happy.”

Trump, who announced his candidacy for president in the 2024 election, has consistently denied the accuser’s claims.

Trump accused of rape

Carroll filed the lawsuit last year. She claimed that Trump raped her in the dressing room of Bergdorf Goodman department store in 1995 or 1996. She first revealed this publicly in 2019 in her book What Do We Need Men For?: A Modest Proposal.

Trump as president, and then as an individual, called the alleged relationship with Carroll a fiction she invented to boost sales of her book. He said she wasn’t his type. – He does it for money and for political reasons. And in doing so, he is hurting real rape victims,” Trump said.
