A fragment of the fuselage skin broke off on a United Airlines Boeing 737-800 during flight. This was noticed only after the plane landed safely in Medford, Oregon.

The Boeing, which had 139 passengers and six crew members on board, took off from San Francisco. The destination airport was Rogue Valley International Medford Airport in Oregon.

The absence of one of the skin panels was noticed only during a routine technical inspection after the flight. The machine has been in operation since 1998.

“We will conduct a thorough examination of the aircraft and make all necessary repairs before it returns to service,” NBC quoted a United Airlines statement as saying.

Boeing problems

The airline announced an investigation to find out the cause of the damage. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) are also investigating the incident.

Friday's incident is another in a series of recent problems for aircraft manufacturer Boeing. Last week, a Boeing 737 MAX slid off the runway at the airport. George Bush in Houston.

A serious incident also occurred on January 5, when during the flight of one of Boeing's newest designs – the 737 MAX 9 aircraft operated by Alaska Airlines – a panel replacing the emergency door fell off the fuselage of this machine. The plane made an emergency landing with a hole in the fuselage.

Reuters recalled that after the incident on January 5, the Seattle-based company remains under strict control. Investigations are ongoing into safety and quality standards in Boeing's manufacturing process.
