The Washington District Court sentenced Emma Coronel Aispuro, wife of Joaquin Guzman “El Chapo”, to three years in prison. The woman was convicted of participating in the construction of the Sinaloa cartel, responsible for smuggling cocaine and other drugs into the United States, the EFE agency reported.
In June, 32-year-old Emma Coronel Aispuro, spouse of Joaquin Guzman “El Chapo”, the infamous Mexican drug lord, pleaded guilty to charges of knowingly and deliberately conspiring to distribute heroin, cocaine, marijuana and methamphetamine, laundering money and engaging in financial relationship with the Sinaloa drug cartel.
She also admitted plotting to help her husband break out of a Mexican prison in 2015.
Wife of “El Chapo” with allegations of involvement in drug trafficking
Emma Coronel Aispuro, the former beauty queen, stayed arrested in February at Washington Dulles airport in Virginia – charged with involvement in international drug trafficking.
Guzman was tracked down by the police and captured in 2015 in Mexico. Shortly after being arrested, he fled. In 2016, he was similarly arrested and then handed over to the US judiciary. In July 2019 “El Chapo” has been convicted by an American court sentenced to life imprisonment.
