War in Ukraine and support for Kiev were the main topics of the US president’s Monday conversation Joe Biden and Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen in Washington, the White House said.

During the meeting, both Biden and Frederiksen noted the close cooperation between the two countries on the matter Ukraine. Denmark is one of the leading European countries supporting Kiev with weapons and has led the European coalition to train Ukrainian pilots on the F-16.

Frederiksen on the candidacy for the post of NATO chief

Frederiksen’s visit – her first bilateral meeting with Biden – has sparked speculation that the head of government in Copenhagen is being considered as a potential candidate to replace Jens Stoltenberg as secretary general FOR THIS.

National Security Council spokesman John Kirby denied this was a topic of talks at the White House.

The Danish politician herself refused to speculate on the subject. When she was asked after the meeting by Danish journalists if she would decline the position if offered, she replied that she was not a candidate and the conversation with Biden did not change that. She added that she would consider speculation on the matter to be a sign of appreciation.

Referring to the question about the Vatican’s peacekeeping mission, Frederiksen said that although “everyone is very interested in peace, it takes two to tango”, and Russia still does not show such willingness. “None of us in the Alliance wants to do anything without Ukraine,” she added.
