USA. Marco Rubio, the new head of US diplomacy, chose the direction of his first trip

Marco Rubio, appointed by Donald Trump as US Secretary of State, will make his first trip abroad next week. He will fly to Panama and four other Latin American countries, Tammy Bruce, the new spokeswoman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said on Thursday.

As she announced, Rubio's visit will begin in the second half of next week and will include Panama, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala and Dominican Republic. The trip will come after President Donald Trump promised to take back the Panama Canal from Panama in his inaugural speech, claiming that the country had given up control of the crossing. China and betrayed the agreement with the USA.

The migration route to the USA runs through most of these countries. Most illegal immigrants to the United States also come from Central American countries.

“It signals how seriously he takes this (the region), how much it means to his programs and his commitment to the nation, and certainly to matters related to the Trump agenda,” a spokeswoman said of Rubio's decision.

“Prioritize protecting America’s borders.”

During the Senate hearings, Rubio – the son of immigrants from… Cuba and the first Latino as head of US diplomacy – did not directly repeat the territorial claims expressed by Trump, but declared that his task would be to implement the policy set by the president.

In a statement regarding the priorities of the ministry he heads, Rubio listed first the need to secure the borders and stop mass migration.

“Our diplomatic relations with other countries, particularly in the Western Hemisphere, will prioritize protecting America's borders, stopping illegal and destabilizing migration, and negotiating the repatriation of illegal immigrants,” he said.
