Steven Bertolino, a lawyer in Brian Laundri’s family, points out that no cause of death has been established in the case of Gabby Petito’s partner. “The remains were sent to an anthropologist for further examination,” he said.

Brian Laudri’s remains were sent to the anthropologist “for further investigation” after “the autopsy findings were inconclusive,” said the man’s family lawyer Steven Bertolino. “The method or cause of death has not been established,” he said in a statement to NBC News.

Bertolino stressed that he had not been informed when the anthropologist would complete the assessment of Laundri’s remains, which he said would eventually be cremated. The man’s family has no plans to hold a funeral anytime soon and is considering a private ceremony at a later point, he added.

Brian Laundri’s remains were found on October 20 at the Carlton Reservation in Florida after more than a month of searches in connection with the murder of his fiancée Gabby Petito, found in Wyoming.

The remains – described by the North Port Police Department as “looking like a skeleton” – were declared on October 21 as belonging to Brian Laundri on the basis of dental documentation. According to the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the remains were found alongside personal items such as a back and a notebook belonging to Laudri.

Steven Bertolino said it was the man’s parents who helped lead the FBI and North Port policemen to Myakkahatchee Creek Park. He rejected the notion that the family knew in advance that their son might disappear or that there had been an agreement with prosecutors to assist with the search.

Murder of Gabby Petito

Blogger and traveler Gabby Petito went missing while traveling across the country with her partner Brian Laundrie. They drove west from Florida in a van to visit national parks in this part of the US. Petito regularly published photos from the expedition on social media, the last time on August 25. At the end of August, she also contacted her family for the last time.

On September 1, Laundrie himself returned home in Florida in his friend’s van. The man disappeared after several days without a trace, and the family reported him missing. Florida police started a search for Laundrie.

Gabby Petito’s family notified police that she was missing on September 11. Authorities then began a large-scale search – soon after the body of a 22-year-old blogger was found in Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming. The coroner stated that Petito was the victim of a homicide. In the first half of October, the authorities said that the cause of the woman’s death was asphyxiation.
