A woman who stayed at the house where the four University of Idaho students were murdered told investigators she heard crying in one of the bedrooms on the night of the murder – and then saw a masked man walk past her and leave the house.

The shocking report was made Thursday, just before Bryan Kohberger, a 28-year-old doctoral student accused of murder, went to trial for the first time in Moscow, Idaho.

Leaked documents show that police linked Kohberger to the November 13, 2022 murders based on DNA testing, mobile phone data and video footage.

She was home at the time of the murder

Police initially said that the uninjured roommates did not wake up until before noon and a 911 call was made for help.

According to a new statement, one of the surviving roommates woke up around 4am and looked twice from her room when she heard one of the women say someone was home. She later testified that she heard crying in one of the bedrooms.

When she opened the door a third time, she told authorities, she stood “frozen” in place as a man dressed in black walked past her before she locked herself in her room.

Criminology PhD student charged with four murders

Bryan Kohberger was arrested last week in Monroe County, Pennsylvania, where he was visiting family. The man was working on a PhD in criminology at Washington State University, located near the University of Idaho campus.

A doctoral student was arrested on suspicion of murdering four people with a knife on November 13 – three women and a man, all in their 20s, students at the University of Idaho. The coroner said all four were found in their beds. All had multiple stab wounds.

The crime rocked the small college town. The victims are Ethan Chapin, 20, Xana Kernodle, 20, Madison Mogen, 21, and Kaylee Goncalves, 21.
