Four people, including two children, are dead and one was seriously injured in a knife attack in the Queens district of New York, the American television CNN reported. The attacker was shot by a policeman, whom he also attacked.
The tragic incident occurred on Sunday morning. Police in New York said they received a report of an incident in Far Rockaway, Queens. The woman calling allegedly said her cousin was “killing members of his family.”
New York Police Chief Jeffrey Maddrey said during a Sunday press conference that officers went to an address in Queens, where they drove into the driveway and saw a man leaving the house.
The perpetrator had a knife with him and attacked the officers. He stabbed one in the neck and chest and the other in the head, Maddrey said. One of the policemen pulled out a gun and shot the attacker.
The officers were taken to hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
Victims of the attacker
In front of the house, the police found an injured 11-year-old girl who could not be saved. Inside the house, after extinguishing the fire, officers found the bodies of three people: a 12-year-old boy, a 44-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man. All four died from stab wounds, Maddrey said.
The 38-year-old Bronx attacker was previously arrested in connection with a domestic violence incident.
The police are investigating a murder. The person calling the emergency number is being questioned. A 61-year-old woman who was also stabbed remains in hospital. Her condition is critical.
