Police in Florida detained a 37-year-old man after he told the services that he had fatally shot a 57-year-old man in “self-defense”. The victim rented an apartment from him. Local media report details of the case, citing the police report.

The tragedy occurred on Saturday in Westchester, Florida, about 20 km from downtown Miami. The 37-year-old apartment owner allegedly opened fire on the man who rented the apartment from him after an argument “that turned into a fight,” NBC 6 South Florida reported, citing local services. The 57-year-old died on the spot.

A police report cited by local media said the 37-year-old owner, armed with a semi-automatic weapon, knocked on the window, trying to enter the building to adjust the thermostat in the hallway. “When the victim opened the front door, (…) he broke into the house and started beating him.” He then allegedly dragged the landlord into the yard, where he shot him “several times in the head,” police records state.

After the shots were fired, the 37-year-old entered the apartment and adjusted the thermostat, then returned home and called 911. He told the dispatcher that he pulled out his gun after being hit by the 57-year-old. He argued that he acted “in self-defense.” He was arrested and charged with murder, burglary and assault.
