US President Joe Biden signed the provisional budget on Friday, thereby guaranteeing state financing until March 1. This will help avoid the closure of some federal administration institutions, the White House said. This is the third extension of last year’s budget since the end of the fiscal year.

White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre said the bill signed by Biden “will avoid an unnecessary shutdown, maintains current funding levels and does not contain any extreme policies.” She also called on Republicans in Congress to quickly adopt a full budget without deep budget cuts, as well as to pass additional funds to support Ukraine.

Despite opposition from the extreme wing of the Republican Party, which demanded spending cuts, the bill ultimately passed smoothly through both houses of Congress. The provisional plan envisages an increase in spending levels by $28 billion compared to last year, including inflationthis constitutes a real reduction.

As with previous provisionals, they do not include additional funds to help Ukraine. Negotiations on this matter are still ongoing, and according to the announcements of senators from both parties, a vote on the package for Ukraine may take place as early as next week.
