US Secretary of Health Robert F. Kennedy Jr. He presented a report on the reasons for the decline in the expected life expectancy of Americans. The document was to be groundbreaking, but – as experts noted – there are many mistakes and imaginary research. In their opinion, some of the scientific references look like generated by artificial intelligence – reports “Washington Post”.

Key facts:

  • Kennedy's report was to be a breakthrough according to administration. But the experts with whom the journalists of Washington Post talked about a number of errors in it. They also indicate traces of the use of artificial intelligence.
  • A spokeswoman for the White House referred to the allegations.
  • The original version of the document, which was published on the pages of the White House, was changed twice.

The report was prepared by the Commission health department Under the leadership of Kennedy himself, who – as “Washington Post” reminds – already referred to distorted data or scientific arrangements.

The document on the reasons for the decline in the expected life expectancy of Americans includes quotes from scientific works that do not exist, there are references to the wrong authors, and many content contains infallible marks that they were prepared using the company's chat Openai – says the Washington daily on Friday, citing his analysis and opinions of experts he talked to.

The document “The Maha Report: Making Our Children Healthy Again” (“MAHA Report: Make our children again healthy”) refers to the slogan of Kennedy “Making America Healthy Again” – “make America healthy”. This, in turn, is a reference to the main slogan of the president Donald Trumpmeaning “make America Great Again” – “make America great”.

Non -existent research, erroneous authors of scientific work

For example, the document is quoted by a study entitled “Excessive use of oral corticosteroids in children with asthma,” but – as experts pointed out – there is no one. “Washington Post” points out that this is not the only such case. It was noticed that some scientific quotes also have the wrong author assigned.

What's more, nearly half of the item in the report of the report contains links to some articles or research, but from the preliminary analysis of the journal shows that at least 21 of these links are inactive.

The newspaper also adds that some references to scientific work have a certain element attached to the URL addresses, which means that these research has been collected using artificial intelligence (AI).

She noticed that artificial intelligence technology can be legally used for a quick test review in a given field. However, Oren Etzioni – a retired professor at the University of Washington, who conducts research on AI – said “WP” that he was shocked by the carelessness that appeared in the Maha report.

“To be honest, it's a bullshit,” he commented. “We deserve something better” – he added.

Steven Pantadosi, a professor of psychology and neuroscience at the University of California in Berkeley, pointed out that artificial intelligence sets many traps because “he willingly invents quotes”.

White House comment

When asked about non -existent scientific work, which the authors of the report refer to, the spokeswoman for the White House Karoline Leavitt said that there were “some problems with the formatting of the document, but” this does not undermine his substance. ” In her opinion, “this is one of the most groundbreaking health reports that was made available by the federal government.”

Leavitt also added that the document was based on “good science that was not previously recognized by the government.”

Changed the version of the report

From the original version of the report, posted on the side of the White House, on Thursday afternoon quotes and links were removed testifying to the use of the GPT cottage, and in the night of Thursday to Friday corrections to other content were introduced.

The president of the non-profit organization of the science center in the public interest, Peter Lurie, announced that the report contains data sets prepared by its center, but they were assigned to health and agriculture ministries.

“WP” also reminds that earlier, before the full version of the report appeared, Lurie said that “the document exceeds the boundaries of science, drawing some conclusions”, and many of its fragments contain “misleading representations of findings from scientific articles”.
