USA. Russian planes near Alaska. Fighters were scrambled

Russian military aircraft, including fighters and strategic bombers, were intercepted by the North American Air Defense Command (NORAD) while in international airspace near Alaska, the US military said.

The Russian planes that were detected on February 13 did not violate US airspace either Canada and did not pose a threat – reported in the statement of the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), which consists of USA and Canada.

“NORAD expected such activity from the Russian side (…) and was prepared for interception [samolotów – red.]” – indicated in the communiqué, adding that F-16 fighters took part in the operation.

As it was added, the Russian planes had nothing to do with mysterious objectswhich have been shot down over the USA and Canada in recent days.

Russians: we fly over international waters

The Russian side did not comment on the reports of aircraft interception over Alaska, but said on Wednesday that in recent days it had carried out many flights over international waters, including over the Bering Sea, located between Russia and Alaska.

Two Russian Tu-95MC strategic bombers, accompanied by Su-30 fighters, were to fly over this basin. “Long-range aviation pilots regularly fly over the neutral waters of the Arctic, the North Atlantic, the Black Sea, the Baltic Sea and the Pacific,” the Russian Defense Ministry said.

Russian planes near the Polish air defense zone

The Dutch Ministry of Defense reported that the country’s F-35 fighter jets carrying out the mission FOR THIS monitoring the airspace over Central and Eastern Europe, intercepted on Monday three Russian planes that approached the Polish air defense zone.
