US Foreign Minister Antony Blinken said in an interview with MSNBC television that he sees an extraordinary moment in Russia. Russia’s defeat in Ukraine has been exposed, and cracks have appeared inside Russia, he said. He also assessed that it could help the Ukrainian counter-offensive.

“This is and remains a remarkable moment in many ways, because I think it further revealed the failure of the war Russia in Ukraine, said the head of US diplomacy Anthony Blinken in an interview with MSNBC.

– We see that cracks have appeared, not only in relation to what is happening on site, on Ukrainebut also in Moscow – he added in an interview on the “Morning Joe” program.

At the same time, he refused to speculate about what might happen in the future and whether there is someone who can overthrow Putin’s regime. However, Blinken added that there is no doubt that Putin “will have to answer many questions.”

Earlier, a similar opinion was expressed by the US president Joe Bidenwho told reporters that Putin’s position had weakened, though it was difficult to assess how much. However, he added that Putin is losing war in Ukraine and loses it at home, while abroad he has become a pariah.

Blinken: Moscow scattered by its own divisions

When asked about the ongoing Ukrainian counter-offensive, Blinken said that although the fighting is heavy due to the Russian defensive lines prepared for many months, it is still in its early stages and the Ukrainians still have not engaged their main forces in the fight.

– As long as Moscow is distracted by its own internal divisions, it can help. As long as Wagner’s forces are no longer on the front, that would help too, because they were effective. Even if they were just throwing people into a meat grinder that Putin gave them, it had a certain effect,” said the US secretary of state.

Blinken also assessed that in the light of recent events, it is increasingly difficult for China to continue its “walk the tightrope”, between supporting Russia and presenting itself as an independent mediator.
