In July, Judge Timothy Kerns found Steinke – who was fired from the police force after an accident on the tracks – guilty of reckless endangerment and third-degree assault. However, he did not find her guilty of attempted murder. The American broadcaster noted that Steinke met with Rios-Gonzalez and quoted her statement in which she indicated that she “understood the physical, emotional and mental pain” suffered by the 20-year-old and her loved ones. “As a police officer, I never wanted another person to suffer under my supervision. I feel very responsible for what happened that night. What happened that night haunted me for 364 days,” Steinke was reported to have said.
Pablo Vazquez, the second officer present at the scene of the 20-year-old’s arrest, is still waiting for his trial – the CBS News portal reported, emphasizing that he is accused of parking a police car at a railway crossing, and has also been charged with reckless endangerment and obstruction. .
