Police from the US state of Illinois stopped a speeding vehicle after the woman driving it reported that she was unable to stop it. The police car's maneuver allowed it to stop just a few hundred meters from the lake.
On Monday, the Williamson County Sheriff's Office received a report from a pregnant woman reporting that she was unable to stop the car she was driving, the sheriff's office announced on social media. Police cars approached the woman's vehicle near Carterville. “The vehicle had its brake lights on, but did not slow down and continued driving at a speed of approximately 30 miles per hour (50 km per hour – ed.),” the authorities said in a statement.
Police action
When the officers decided that it was unsafe to continue driving, they organized a road blockade. The police car moved in front of the woman's vehicle and then slowly slowed down until its front bumper touched the police car's rear bumper. After a while, the speeding car was stopped. “The maneuver was successful and the out-of-control vehicle was stopped approximately 1/4 mile before reaching Crab Orchard Lake,” the sheriff's office said.
– If the constable had not been at the scene or had delayed this maneuver, the driver and the vehicle would probably have fallen into the water – said Sheriff Jeff Diederich, quoted in Monday's entry. Due to the “great caution” of the services due to the fact that the woman was pregnant, an ambulance also arrived at the scene. However, no one was injured. The woman's car was “slightly damaged,” we read.
