US police detained a 40-year-old man who shot at cars passing near his home. The shells hit the car in which the father and his eight-year-old son were going on vacation. The boy was hit in the neck. He was pronounced dead in the hospital, reports NBC News. The tragedy happened in South Carolina.
The attacker started shooting passing cars, first through the window of his house and then from the terrace. He fired several shots at the passenger car in which the father and son were driving.
The man was hit in the leg, his life is not in danger. His eight-year-old son, Quarius Naqua Dunham, however, was hit in the neck. The boy was transported to the local hospital, but the doctors failed to save him, reported journalists.
The killer is, as the Florence County Sheriff’s Office has pointed out, forty-year-old Charles Montgomery Allen. The man was detained shortly after the incident and heard allegations of manslaughter and attempted murder. The man – according to American services – fired “many missiles at random cars”. The perpetrator’s motive has not yet been established.

NBC News reporters report that the boy who was shot was from Portsmouth, New Hampshire. The boy was on his way on vacation.
His school officials said in a statement that an “incredible tragedy” had occurred. They expressed their sympathy to the family.
