Tatiana N. David, 34, was killed in a shootout between police officers and the man who kidnapped her, New York State Police said. According to NBC News, the kidnapper was supposed to be Michael C. Davis, the father of the woman’s 4-year-old child. The kidnapping and shooting happened on the 34-year-old’s birthday.

New York State Police received a report of the abduction of a young woman in the city of Ithaca on April 5 in the morning hours. A witness testified that Ithaca resident Tatiana N. David was forced against her will into a white SUV by 34-year-old Michael C. Davis of Richmond, Virginia.

Chasing a suspect

Several hours later, around 9:25 p.m. local time, the police spotted the described vehicle near the Virginia border. The officers tried to stop him, but Davis started to run. Police launched a pursuit that “ended when the suspect’s vehicle crashed into a wooded area at approximately 10:05 p.m.,” the New York State Police said in a press release on April 6.

A 34-year-old man was shot dead and the man was transported to the hospital in critical condition. “Outside the vehicle, Tatiana N. David was also found at the scene of the accident with a visible gunshot wound,” the police said. The woman was already dead, but the services are clarifying the circumstances in which she died.

Kidnapping and shooting on a birthday

On April 10, the US media released additional details about the case. NBC News, citing police and publicly available documents, said Tatiana N. David had a four-year-old child with a man suspected of abduction. The kidnapping and shooting allegedly took place on her 34th birthday, but it is not clear whether this date was related to the kidnapping. The Ithaca Voice also obtained a video recording of the shooting scene. It shows that the driver’s side of the car Davis was driving was “full of visible bullet holes, including in the front and rear seats.” The other side of the vehicle is not visible in the video.
