A two-year-old shot himself in the head, he’s dead
The boy shot himself in the head. In a serious condition, he was taken to hospital, where he died. Investigators initially established that the child’s death was the result of a tragic accident.
The French agency AFP points out that this is just one example of a shocking series of similar incidents.
“Every year, hundreds of children in the United States find loaded, unsecured handguns in wardrobes, drawers, nightstands, backpacks, purses, or simply left outside,” according to a report from the European Forum for Geography and Statistics (EFGS).
“With tragic regularity, children find unsecured handguns and inadvertently shoot themselves or someone else,” the EFGS points out.
765 victims of “unintended by children” shootings
Since 2015, the organization has been monitoring, among other things, “unintended shootings by children” and their consequences. He estimates that 765 people have lost their lives as a result of such events in the last six years, and this year already 111.
The EFGS calls these incidents “heart-rending part of the US epidemic of gun violence.”
“The US constitution guarantees the right to bear arms, and 30 percent of American adults own at least one gun. About 40,000 people die each year due to gun violence,” AFP said.
