Three policemen were shot dead in a nighttime intervention outside a bar in Houston, Texas. One died after being taken to the hospital, the other is in critical condition, and the third is injured in the foot. The officers probably stopped the robbery. According to the services, one person was arrested in connection with this situation, but the search for the main perpetrator is still ongoing.

The deputy chief of police at 4 Houston, Texas, was killed and two other officers were injured in a shootout outside a bar there, USA Today reported. “Executive assistant to Houston Police Chief James Jones told reporters that someone shot the police with a rifle during the arrest attempt. Authorities are still looking for a man who is believed to be the perpetrator,” the American newspaper reported.


Houston cops “ambushed”

The incident took place on the night from Friday to Saturday at 2:15 (around 9 a.m. Polish time) in front of the Norte Sports Bar. The officers intervened there after the received report. According to Jones, they may have stopped the seizure. When they tried to stop a suspect, they “got ambushed”.

Harris County 4, Houston, reported that one policeman was shot in the back in critical condition and the other was injured in the foot. The death of a third, who was Deputy Chief of Police, Houston 4, was confirmed at Memorial Hermann Hospital.

Jones admitted that it is not yet clear whether the police were able to respond with fire to the attack. An investigation is underway. One person was arrested at the scene.

“This is a terrible time. (…) We really need your help and the support of the community,” Jones pleaded at a press conference.

Chief of Police Station: We hope to have a suspect soon

Houston Police Chief Troy Finner was in Washington when the shooting occurred, according to USA Today. He participates in events honoring fallen police officers from across the country, including seven from the Houston Police Department.

“We hope that we will soon have a suspect in custody and we hope to bring this person to justice soon. (…) I believe that good always triumphs over evil, and what happened tonight was evil” – assessed the head of the 4th police station Mark Herman. He noted that his main concern at the moment was the families of the three policemen and providing them with the immediate care and support they would need.
