A small plane with four people on board crashed at Provo Airport in Utah on Monday. One person died and three were hospitalized. The circumstances of the accident are being investigated by the US National Transportation Safety Board. The airport will remain closed until noon on Tuesday.

The private plane crashed shortly after takeoff, around 11.35 am, and one of the three survivors was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. The other two passengers suffered “minor bruises,” Provo City officials said, quoted by ABC News. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) said on social media that it was investigating the circumstances of the crash of the plane, identified as an Embraer Phenom 300.

The plane rose three meters above the ground and fell

Brian Torgersen, a representative from Provo airport, told FOX13 that the plane appeared to be badly damaged and he was surprised that the two people on board walked away with “relatively minor injuries”. As he noted, the plane rose only three meters from the ground before it fell. – Nobody knows what happened. Immediately after takeoff, something happened that caused the plane to lose control, he said. Togersen was supposed to be one of the first people on the scene.

Canceled flights

Details such as where the plane was headed and the identities of the passengers were not released. The airport will remain closed until noon on Tuesday. As a result, Allegiant Air canceled nine flights. A spokesman for the airline said the company was contacting passengers directly to offer refunds or rescheduling.
