USA. The verdict has been passed in the case of Donald Trump

The judge handling Donald Trump's criminal case Juan Merchan decided that the announcement of the sentence for the former US president will take place on July 11. Trump faces up to a year in prisonbut most commentators expect the former president to avoid prison.

Donald Trump: The judge was corrupt

– It's a disgrace, a rigged trial. The judge was corrupt. The real verdict will be delivered on November 5. I am an innocent man – Donald Trump said immediately after the verdict was announced. – Everyone knows what happened here. We have a prosecutor supported by Soros and this whole case… we didn't do anything wrong, he added. – We will fight for the constitution. It's not over yet – he added at the end.

Prosecutors alleged that Trump, by concealing payment for Daniels' silence about their alleged relationship, tried to illegally influence the election. Trump thus became the first US president in history to be convicted in a criminal case.

Prosecutors alleged that Trump tried to illegally disguise these expenses as payment for legal services to his then-lawyer. Michael Cohenwho acted as an intermediary in the transaction. This is punishable by up to 20 years in prison. Cohen himself was convicted of, among others, in this case in 2018 and spent three years behind bars.

The New York trial is one of four in which prosecutors brought criminal charges against him. However, it will probably be the only one that will end before the November elections. If Trump wins, he will be able to order the dropping of charges against him in cases involving the illegal retention of secret documents and attempts to illegally stay in power. However, he will still face charges from the state prosecutor's office in Georgia, which accused him of leading a criminal group aimed at remaining in power despite losing the 2020 elections.
