Drought in New York. The mayor issued an important appeal

As he conveyed “The Guardian“, the fact that October in New York turned out to be the driest in 150 years was confirmed by the commissioner of the city's environmental protection department, Rohit Aggarwala. Last month, only 0.02 cm of rain fell in Central Park, while the most common level reaches 11.2 cm. Residents use an average of 4.2 billion liters of water a day.

The appeal issued by Eric Adams is related to the first of three potential directives to save water in one of the most populous US cities. In addition to the above-mentioned recommendations, the mayor also suggested taking shorter showers and repairing leaking taps.

The United States is struggling with a lack of rain and extreme temperatures

The drought problem was to affect almost half of the US territory in October. All because of little rainfall and extremely high temperatures. In the north-east, among others, exceptionally warm Halloween – from New York to Maine, thermometers ranged from 24 to 28 degrees Celsius.

The drought also hampered navigation on the Mississippi River and contributed to the outbreak of forest fires in the central-western and eastern regions of the country. American firefighters are still to warn about the increased risk associated with the element.
