The administration of Donald Trump presses the Romanian authorities to give their passports and let them leave the country of influencers Andrew and Tristan Tate, “Financial Times said. The brothers, having American and British citizenship, were arrested in 2022 in Romania on charges of human trafficking and participation in an organized criminal group. They are currently in home arrest.
For two years in Romania towards the brothers Andrew and Tristan Tate has a loud trial. The accused are, among others for human trafficking, forcing pornographic films and participation in an organized criminal group. Until January 2025, they were in domestic detention, and are currently covered by police supervision and cannot leave Romania.
The Tate brothers – who have British and American citizenship – are icons of the so -called manosphere, online platforms addressed to young men who promote the superiority of men over women. As the Financial Times notes, this segment of voters played a significant role in Trump's re -election.
Before the election, the Tate brothers gave the Protrump journalist Tucker Carlson, who called viewers to “make their own opinion” about them.

“FT”: Tate brothers topic raised in a telephone conversation
According to three sources of the British daily, the brothers' case for the first time the new US administration raised last week in a telephone conversation with representatives of the Romania government. Then this issue was discussed with the Minister of Foreign Affairs by Romania Emil Harezean, a special envoy Trump Richard Grenell in the lobby of the Munich Safety Conference (MSC).
Minister Hajezean refused to comment on this matter. A spokesman for the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it was the minister who initiated the meeting. As he said, the head of the Ministry of Diplomacy Romania knows Grenell with “for years” because they were both ambassadors in Berlin during the first term of Donald Trump.
In turn, Grenell said that he “supports the Tate brothers”, which – as he assessed – can be seen in his “commonly available posts on the portal X”. He stipulated, however, that his conversation with Hajezean in Munich “was not very full -bodied”.
As “FT” reminds, it is once again when Trump's administration raises Romanian issues.
Grenell is criticized by “Bidena band”
At the beginning of February, Grenell criticized the actions of previous US authorities towards Romania. In the entry on X, he assessed that Romania is an “next example” of how the US US agency for international development (USAID) used the spending of funds against people and politicians who are not 'Woke' (i.e. aware and reacting – understood by party members leftist and progressive; for conservatives, this is a collective term for progressive values that they receive negatively;
“The Biden team spent the money of American taxpayers to support leftist programs and candidates around the world,” he wrote. “Conservatives around the world have become the target of attacks,” he added. In this way he referred to information that some of the funds from USAID for Romania were allocated to programs related to the Romanian judicial system.
In turn, the Vice President of the USA JD Vance in his speech At the Munich security conference, he determined the decision to annul the presidential election in Romania as another example of “destroying European democracy from the inside.”
The first round of the presidential election on November 24, 2024 in Romania was won by a nationalist politician Calin Georgescu. However, in December, two days before the second round, the constitutional court annulled the results of the November voting and ordered the entire election process to be re -conducted. The decision was made on the basis of documents indicating that the Georgescu's campaign was the result of manipulation, probably supported by Russia.
