Iran, by supplying combat drones to Russia, directly enables Russia to continue its aggression in Ukraine, said US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby. He acknowledged that the United States is trying to disrupt such activities and announced that he would implement new sanctions “in the coming days”.

– The US has observed that Iran and Russia are “deepening an unprecedented military partnership,” which will allow Moscow to extend its aggression to Ukraine. This cooperation also poses a threat to Iran’s neighbors, US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said on Monday.

Iran delivers Russia primarily kamikaze drones, while Moscow is seeking more technically advanced models. In return, Tehran wants to buy billions of dollars in Russian weapons, and Moscow offers it close military cooperation on missiles, electronics and air defense, Kirby said.

Russia attacks Ukraine with Iranian drones

Russian forces use drones to attack Ukrainian infrastructure. “By supplying them to Russia, Iran directly enables Russia to continue its aggression in Ukraine,” Kirby said.

“We are using all the tools at our disposal to vocally criticize and disrupt such activities,” added a spokesman for the US National Security Council. He announced that United States “in the coming days” will therefore implement new sanctions.

Tehran claims it only sold drones to Russia prior to its attack on Ukraine, but in February the U.S. Counterintelligence Agency declassified a report showing that Russia was using Iranian drones to attack Ukraine.

Also, the American Institute for War Studies (ISW) reported then that Russian attacks on civilian targets and critical infrastructure are increasingly relying on Iranian drones, and Russia is seeking to strengthen military cooperation with Iran.
