A white powder was found in the White House on Sunday, which preliminary tests revealed to be cocaine, the Washington Post reported on Tuesday. The detection of the substance caused a short-term evacuation of the residence of the US president.

Secret Service (USSS) spokesman Anthony Guglielmi told the Washington Post that agents are investigating how the substance ended up on White House grounds. She was found during a routine inspection.

The spokesman did not reveal in which part of the complex the powder was found, but on Sunday the main part of the complex, i.e. the president’s residence, was evacuated.

Guglielmi said the powder will undergo additional testing. However, according to the newspaper, an officer of the Metropolitan Fire Department from the hazardous materials department radioed that the test showed that it was cocaine.

President Joe Biden was not on the White House grounds during the evacuation. He was at the presidents’ summer residence at Camp David, Maryland.
