A woman’s body has been found in Yellowstone National Park, Montana. According to investigators, she was most likely attacked by a bear. Only a week earlier, warnings had been issued in the region about the growing risk of meeting these animals.

The body of the woman was found on Sunday evening, the state agency dealing with m.in. conservation and Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks. The woman’s body was found Saturday morning on the Buttermilk Trail in western Yellowstone National Park.

The victim was probably attacked by a bear. “Investigators have confirmed grizzly bear tracks at the scene and the investigation is ongoing,” it said. The woman’s identity and details of the incident are unknown at this time. For safety reasons, however, the park authorities decided to temporarily close the trail and appealed to avoid this area.

“Bears are found all over Montana. In recent years, the grizzly bear population has increased,” notes Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks on social media and urges people to take precautions when hiking. Recommends, among others traveling in a group and planning your trips during the day, avoiding places that indicate bear presence, paying attention to bear signs (feces, overturned rocks, partially consumed animal carcasses), making noise to alert bears to your presence, and never approaching a bear at all. You should also move only on marked trails.

Last week, the organization warned of the presence of grizzly bears in the region, writing that “Montana is bear country”. It was then noticed that the probability of encountering this animal is increasing and the number of places where it can occur is increasing.
