From the beginning of the year to the end of July, private importers imported over 518 thousand passenger cars to Poland. This is one-fourth more than last year. In July alone, over 87 thousand passenger cars and light commercial vehicles were registered in the country – according to the analysis of the SAMAR Automotive Market Research Institute. According to forecasts, by the end of 2024, there will be between 940 thousand and 960 thousand imported cars on the Polish secondary market. This would be the highest result in a decade. Used cars over a dozen years old are flooding Poland. “They are subject to various scams”
As indicated “Republic”the Polish Automotive Industry Association reports that 56% of second-hand cars coming to Poland are over 10 years old. Cars up to four years old, on the other hand, make up less than 10% of all vehicles. The average age of a privately imported car this year is over 12 years. The industry notes that age itself often goes hand in hand with poorer technical condition of vehicles.
– Imported cars are often the subject of various frauds by dishonest dealers who try to increase profits by cheating customers, Karolína Topolová, CEO of Aures Holdings, told the daily. autoDNA specializing in verifying vehicle histories, indicates that 50 percent of used cars have hidden problems, and 70 to 80 percent come to Poland with rolled-back mileage.

The daily reports that this year, the largest number of used cars are coming to Poland from Germany (295,000), France (59.3,000) and Belgium (42.1,000). At the same time, the popularity of cars from the American market is growing – this year, 30.6 thousand cars were imported to Poland from there, which is a 64 percent increase.
Meanwhile, it is cars from the US that pose the greatest risk to buyers. Most of them are cars that have been in accidents or are classified as unfit for driving. – In Europe, used cars of American origin are usually in poor technical condition. And the degree of damage to vehicles increases the further east they go – explains Frank Brüggink, founder and managing director of Carfax Europe, to “Rzeczpospolita”.

Portal Moto.plciting the report “Otomoto Insights”, recently pointed to an increase in the prices of used cars in Poland. The latest data shows that individual sellers raised their prices by 3 percent, and business customers by nearly 5 percent. At the same time, interest in buying used cars is still growing. According to CEPiK data, 40 percent more vehicles were registered in July compared to the previous year.
What is the reason for this state of affairs? According to the authors of the study, the reason is EU directives, in connection with which manufacturers will soon have to install new solutions limiting CO2 emissions. This will translate into rising purchase costs. Therefore, many Poles decide to buy now, to make it before the price increases.
