The Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs referred to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus on Sunday diplomatic note, which announced readiness to help migrants staying on the Polish-Belarusian border, near Usnarz Górny. “Considering the seriousness of the situation, the Polish side is ready to immediately send a convoy with humanitarian aid,” it stated.
Przydacz: a decision on the side of Belarus
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Marcin Przydacz said on Monday that “if help is needed, it should be done legally and within the law”. – These people are on the territory of Belarus, hence our offer yesterday, a note sent to the Belarusian side with an offer of specific help. We are able to offer tents, camp beds and hygiene products to Belarus. This type of support may be on the other side of the border within a few hours – he said.
He informed that the Belarusian side had received a note. “Now the decision is on their side,” he said, adding that “the trucks with help are ready and can leave at any time.”
– The border is not a place that everyone can cross, wherever they want. Otherwise, there would not really be a border. We have this type of border with the Czech Republic, with Germany within the Schengen area, and you can cross it freely. On the other hand, the external border of the European Union is crossed legally only at border crossings, so these trucks, if there is consent from the Belarusian side, will of course go through the border crossing – Przydacz explained.
He added that the note contained a question to the Belarusian side about the need for other assistance, which was not included in the note. – The ball is on the Belarusian side. If these people need help, we are ready to support Belarus, because they are legally on their territory, and it is due to the actions of the Belarusian side that these migrants ended up in Belarus, said the deputy minister.
