For several days, a group of several dozen migrants has been wandering on the Polish-Belarusian border in Usnarz Górny. On Saturday, Polish border guards and soldiers moved the cordon from the border with Belarus, not letting journalists, humanitarian activists or politicians in for it. The uniform was also not missed by the Deputy Speaker of the Sejm Gabriela Morawska-Stanecka, who appeared on Saturday in Usnarz Górny. As she told journalists, the Senate human rights committee is to meet next week to address the crisis at the border.
On Saturday morning, in the town of Usnarz Górny, the Border Guard and the army moved the cordon several hundred meters from the border with Belarus, where several dozen foreigners have been camping for several days. Migrants who – according to the Polish authorities – are on the Belarusian side, want to get to Poland and apply for international aid. The Border Guard officers and armed soldiers do not let journalists pass. The place where the foreigners are located has been tightly covered by standing cars belonging to the army and border guards.
The authorities in Minsk are accused of deliberately transferring migrants from Iraq and Afghanistan across the borders with Lithuania, Latvia and Poland, which are also the borders of the Schengen zone, in order to put pressure on the European Union because of the sanctions it has imposed on the Belarusian regime.
Deputy Speaker of the Senate on the Polish-Belarusian border
On Saturday afternoon, the Deputy Speaker of the Senate, Gabriela Morawska-Stanecka, who was not allowed by the Border Guard officers to pass through the cordon, arrived at the site. – Would you gentlemen pass me, could you gentlemen pass me to a person who is sitting there in our country? I am a senator of the Republic of Poland, deputy marshal of this country. Could you please let me see the person who is sitting there, the doctors – said the representative of the Lewica club.
– As can be seen, gentlemen are obliged to remain silent and not to establish any relationships, no contacts. I repeat again. This is terrifying. I am ashamed that something happened that on the Polish border, in front of the Polish border, it is hardly known where, in nobody’s territory, people need help and it is not allowed even a doctor to give them this help – Morawska later told journalists -Stanecka.
As the Deputy Speaker of the Senate announced, she is in contact with the chairman of the Senate human rights committee, senator Aleksander Pociej from the Civic Coalition. – Already on Monday, we will convene an extraordinary meeting of the human rights committee on this issue. It will definitely take place next week. We’ll see what happens by then. I hope no one dies by then – she said.
In the afternoon, a doctor came to Usnarz Górny, who works, among others, in the clinic in Czarna Białostocka in the Podlasie voivodeship. She was also not admitted to migrants. – I came because I was called with a request from the Salvation Foundation. I was informed that there are people who feel unwell. It is known that these people are in very difficult conditions. It is a matter of time, let me put it bluntly, until these people start dying because they have almost no food, no water anymore. They have a huge problem, especially women, with taking care of physiological needs – she said in an interview with TVN24.
Ikonowicz about migrants on the border: they have no way of getting out of here
Piotr Ikonowicz from the Social Justice Movement also came to the Polish-Belarusian border. – We are not the enemies of these uniformed people. They have been given orders and if they do not obey them, they will have very serious consequences. We understand it, but in my opinion it will not be a breach of the Border Guard discipline if they give a thirsty person a bottle of water or anything else – he said.
– I understand that they cannot let them pass now, because you will decide about it [prezes PiS Jarosław – przyp. red.] Kaczyński and Mr. Kaczyński will let them pass sooner or later. Now there is a fight as to who is more cruel – [prezydent Białorusi Alaksandr – red.] Lukashenka or Kaczyński. Mr. Kaczynski flexes his muscles, but it is known that this is a dead end situation. They have no way of getting out of here, because Belarusians will not let them pass and if we do not let them in, they will start to die there – assessed Ikonowicz.
According to him, “PiS is currently counting the days in which it is gaining support, building this support on fear of strangers, on hysteria, on hate shows organized by public television.” – These days are not enough, because at some point the public opinion, even the one that supports PiS, will realize that this is an act of barbarism, that these people on this piece of land are suffering too much and we are not allowed to look at it and see it. cause – he said.
