On Friday, a cable car carrying tourists to Czantoria Wielka mountain broke down near Ustroń. Firefighters are evacuating tourists, of whom there were 55 on the lift at the time of the breakdown.
The failure at the lower cableway station occurred at around 3:30 p.m. “The actions involve the evacuation of 55 tourists using ladders and mountaineering techniques. No one was injured,” said the spokeswoman for the Provincial Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Katowice, Brigadier Aneta Gołębiowska.
There are 17 fire brigades on site, including a specialist high-altitude rescue group from the Municipal Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Jastrzębie-Zdrój. After 5 p.m., the fire department reported that it had already managed to bring in 20 tourists.
Cable car to Czantoria
The cable car on Czantoria is 1640 m long. The elevation it overcomes is 462 m. It can transport 1800 people per hour on four-person couches. The upper station is located at an altitude of 851 m above sea level. The peak of Czantoria Wielka itself is 995 m above sea level. There is a viewing tower on it.
