Vatican. A man tried to enter St. Peter’s Square with a knife and was arrested

A 52-year-old man who tried to enter St. Peter’s Square with a knife, where the faithful gathered before Pope Francis’s noon prayer, was detained, the Italian Ansa agency reported. During the inspection, the man lightly stabbed the policeman in the leg with a knife.

According to the Italian agency, the incident occurred during a routine check of people walking along via della Conciliazione to St. Peter’s Square for the midday Angelus prayer with the Pope.

The man was asked to open the bag he had with him. At first he did not want to do it, and then, forced by the officer, he took a knife from his bag and lightly injured his leg.

He was immediately overpowered and arrested.

Ansa explained that he was probably an unstable person.
