Cardinal Angelo Sodano, retired secretary of state of the Holy See, is in critical condition – released the religious website Il Sismografo on Friday, citing various sources in the Vatican. He reported that the 94-year-old purpurate had COVID-19, which was overlapping with other comorbidities.
Cardinal Angelo Sodano is the former dean of the College of Cardinals and a former longtime associate of St. John Paul II as the secretary of state of the Holy See. He also held this office for over a year of Benedict XVI’s pontificate, until September 2006.
In 2019 Pope Francis accepted his resignation as dean of the College of Cardinals.
According to information provided on Friday by the religious website Il Sismografo, 94-year-old retired Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Angelo Sodano is in a critical condition, caused, among other things, by the severe course of COVID-19. According to the portal, the hierarcha – in addition to coronavirus infection – also suffers from other comorbidities.
