Via Carpatia is to be extended by another 40 kilometers. The General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA) has announced a tender for the design and construction of two sections of the S19 expressway in the Lubelskie Voivodeship. These are the fragments: Międzyrzec Podlaski – Radzyń Podlaski and Radzyń Podlaski – Kock.
The Minister of Infrastructure, Andrzej Adamczyk, emphasized that the announced tender concerns the last section of the S19 road in the Lubelskie Voivodeship.
– Via Carpatia is needed by the eastern regions of our country, as such a specific engine of economic development, and above all, a road that eliminates the specific communication exclusion of these regions – said the head of the Ministry of Infrastructure at a press conference in Kock.
At the same time, he announced that sections of Via Carpatia from Lublin to the south will soon be put into service.
S19 – Międzyrzec Podlaski – Kock
The announced tender concerns the design and construction of two sections of the S19 expressway from the end of the Międzyrzec Podlaski bypass to the beginning of the Kock bypass. Performers may submit bids for one or both of these sections.
The Międzyrzec Podlaski – Radzyń Podlaski section will be approximately 22 km long. As informed by GDDKiA, in the initial section, about 3 km long, the route will follow the current national road number 19. Then it will be led along a new corridor and will bypass Kąkolewnica from the west side. “Two road junctions are planned (Kąkolewnica – in the vicinity of Grabowiec and Radzyń Podlaski Północ), bridges and viaducts, passages for large and small animals as well as access and local roads” – reads the release.
In turn, the section between Radzyń Podlaski and Kock will be about 18 km long. “The route will be built in the existing corridor of the national road No. 19. As part of the task, a dual carriageway bypass of Radzyń Podlaski will be built, as well as two junctions: Radzyń Podlaski Południe, which was planned at the intersection with DK63, and Borki” – indicated road workers.
The investment will be implemented in the “Design and build” system, which means that the contractor’s task will be, among others designing a route, obtaining a permit for a road investment (ZRID), building a road and obtaining an occupancy permit.
S19 – Via Carpatia
GDDKiA pointed out that this is the last of the planned tenders for the S19 from the border of the Mazowieckie and Lubelskie provinces to Lublin. It was recalled that in recent weeks a tender was announced to select a contractor for the 14 km long section of the S19 expressway between the provincial border and Międzyrzec Podlaski.
At the beginning of August, two tenders for the design and construction of the S19 road between Kock and Lubartów were announced. It is a total of nearly 24 km of the road. Its extension is to be the section Lubartów – Lublin, 23 km long. GDDKiA at the end of February this year. signed a contract for the implementation of this part of the expressway.
S19 is to become the main north-south communication route in eastern Poland and part of the international Via Carpatia route, which is to run from Klaipeda and Kaunas in Lithuania via Białystok, Lublin, Rzeszów and Slovak Košice to Debrecen in Hungary, and then to Romania, Bulgaria and Greece.
The Minister of Infrastructure announced on Friday that “by the end of 2025, the turn of 2025 and 2026, Via Carpatia in Poland will be a reality.”
